Description:	The Beard/Locke Bridge (1818) across the Yadkin River, designed by Ithiel Town, became the forerunner of the foremost style of covered bridge in the United States. After this bridge's demise, the Piedmont Toll Bridge was built on the same stone piers in 1899.
