NOAA/NMFS/NWFSC/TM11: CHEMICAL CONTAMINANTS IN GRAY WHALES (Eschrichtius robustus) STRANDED IN ALASKA, WASHINGTON, AND CALIFORNIA, U.S.A. |
| Description: |
Recent mass mortalities and population decline of marine mammals raised
concerns that environmental pollution may have significant negative effects on these animals. To monitor and assess
the effects of chemical contaminants and biological toxins, NMFS implemented the Marine Mammal Health and Stranding
Response Program. The Environmental Conservation Division of the NMFS Northwest Fisheries Science Center has the
lead responsibility for monitoring chemical contamination under the mandate of the program |
